Marmota drilling doubles Greenewood high-grade gold strike
  • Northern assays extend the Greenewood high-grade zone along 20 section lines
  • Best new hit: 8m at 11.5g/t gold from 184m opens up depth
  • Greenewood/Mainwood now spans more than 2km of strike

Special Report: Marmota has reason to cheer after drilling extended high-grade mineralisation Greenewood northwards with hits of up to 8m grading 11.5g/t gold, marking contiguous, high-grade discoveries at either end of the deposit.

Marmota (ASX:MEU) also reported 8m at 10g/t gold from 152m, including 4m at 18g/t, and 12m at 4.5g/t from 132m, including 4m at 13g/t.

A further 12m at 3.4g/t gold from 236m, including 4m at 9.6g/t, extended the system at depth.

High-grade mineralisation has also been tracked almost contiguously, from within 16m of surface, along strike, to a depth of 240m.

Along with earlier drilling extending mineralisation to the south, drilling at the Gawler Craton gold project in South Australia has doubled the strike of high-grade mineralisation and now at depth for the first time since Marmota heralded the discovery west of its Aurora Tank flagship late last year.

First assays from Greenewood showed off thick, high-grade gold in September 2025 and were quickly followed up by more bonanza, close to surface intercepts and real cause for excitement.

It’s all led to an upsized maiden program now totalling around 31,000 metres, directed at hitting extensions, significantly build the resource and increase density to enable an indicated resource for a scoping study.

Chairman Dr Colin Rose said that while further assays are pending, the results received to date have already made the drill program an outstanding success given that high-grade mineralisation at Greenewood has been extended to the north and south.

He added that mineralisation remains open to the north.

“All this has been done with remarkable speed, achieving in just a few months what previously took years to do at Aurora Tank,” Dr Rose said.

“We are ramping the pace up further, generating the data as rapidly as possible so that we have the optimal answers to a variety of relevant production planning issues for Gawler Gold, including where we start first.”

High-grade gold now spans north and south

The new northern results complement 1 October assays from Mainwood, the southern extension of Greenewood, where MEU reported high-grade gold in its first drilling of the zone.

Together, the northern and southern extensions have doubled the known strike of identified high-grade gold zones, taking Greenewood/Mainwood beyond 2km.

MEU is still receiving the remaining 4m composite assays from the completed program with detailed 1m assays to follow.

Results from the drilling will feed into MEU’s Gawler Gold resource model and the indicated resource work needed for the Gawler Gold scoping study, which is underway.

The company sees obvious synergies to be had with a low cost and capex open pit heap leach opportunity at its Aurora Tank project 35km away, and one of the Gawler Craton’s most exciting finds since the Challenger deposit was discovered just 30km away in 1995.
